IP Mediation Specialist Programme (IPMS)

Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) IP Mediation Specialist Programme (IPMS) will be launched in September 2022. IPMS is a joint effort between SMC and Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS). IPMS is open to all SMC Accredited Mediators.

This 1-day programme is designed to enhance a mediator’s skills in managing IP disputes. This programme will cover IP law and practical knowledge on handling IP mediation cases which includes disputes involving patent grants and revocations, trademark applications and infringements, etc.

To be an SMC Accredited Mediator, applicant has to complete the Strategic Conflict Management for Professionals Module 1 (SCMP1) and Module 2 (SCMP2) and pass the Mediation Skills Assessment (MSA). Those who receive a minimum pass for MSA will be called SMC Accredited Mediator. Registration for these courses is found here.

To be accredited as an SMC IP Specialist Mediator, you must obtain a pass in the IP Mediation Specialist Certification Assessment. You will not, however, be placed on SMC’s IP Specialist Mediator Panel* nor be assigned cases by SMC**.

More information on the programme will be available in July 2022. There is no early registration. We encourage those who are interested to keep a look-out for the enrolment exercise of the certification programme at mediation.com.sg.

*Those who passed the IP Mediation Specialist Certification Assessment and wish to be on SMC’s IP Specialist Mediator Panel will need to sign up and clear the requirement to be on SMC’s Panel of Mediators as follows i. obtain a distinction in SMC’s Mediation Skills Assessment (MSA) and ii. clear the interview stage.
**Those already on SMC’s Panel of Mediators will automatically be empanelled on SMC’s IP Specialist Mediator Panel upon passing the IP Mediation Specialist Certification Assessment. SMC does not guarantee assignment of cases.
