Associate Mediator Accreditation Course

This 3-and-a-half day advanced course is specially designed for those who want formal recognition of their mediation skills. You will engage in highly interactive exercises, group activities, class discussions and role plays during the course. There will be three assessments at the end of the course, including a one-hour role play simulation as mediator. Upon successful completion of the course and assessment, you will be accredited as an Associate Mediator of SMC.

Eligibility :

You must have completed the 2-day Mediation: Strategic Conflict Management for Professionals workshop or a 2-day SMC workshop on mediation (not including the Mediation Advocacy: How to be an Effective Lawyer during Mediation workshop) or conflict resolution within the last 2 years preceding the commencement of the Associate Mediator Accreditation Course.

Law students from the National University of Singapore who have completed the Mediation elective will be eligible to attend the Associate Mediator Accreditation Course without the need to attend the 2-day Mediation: Strategic Conflict Management for Professionals workshop, within 2 years from the date of conferment of their degree.

Candidates who have completed the Mediation skills elective at the Preparatory Course leading to Part B of the Singapore Bar examinations will be eligible to attend the Associate Mediator Accreditation Course without the need to attend the 2-day Mediation: Strategic Conflict Management for Professionals workshop, within 2 years from the date of completion of the elective module.

Language Proficiency:

You are required to have a good command of the English language.

An applicant, whose mother tongue is not English or whose medium of instruction at tertiary level is not English, must provide evidence of proficiency in English language. The requirement of English language proficiency is as follows:

Continuing Professional Development Points (CPD):

The Singapore Institute of Legal Education has accredited this workshop as follows:

  • CPD Points for Lawyers: 18 Public CPD Points
  • Practice Area: Professional Skills (Non-Legal)
  • Training Category: Advanced

Participants who require CPD Points should indicate their ‘Admission as Advocate and Solicitor Number’ (AAS No) on the registration form.
